** EVENT IS SOLD OUT! CALL DECO DIVERS AT (305)861-6277 TO INQUIRE ABOUT A WAITLIST**
Debris Free Oceans (DFO) is joining forces with the Deco Divers team and University of Miami’s Rescue a Reef (RAR) to host a scuba trip with a purpose – removing marine debris from the reef! We will meet at 7:15 AM to sign waivers and retrieve rental gear. DFO and RAR will do introductions — our team will speak about the harmful impacts of marine debris and plastic pollution, and go over how to safely conduct a scuba cleanup. RAR will then highlight their work in building healthier and more resilient coral reefs.
After the briefings, we will head offshore to 2 sites on Florida’s Coral Reef to scuba dive and pick up any marine debris and trash that we find. After each dive, we will collect marine debris data to submit to PADI Project AWARE and Southeast Florida Action Network (SEAFAN) for future use by educators, researchers, and policy-makers.
You must have your open-water diver certification and a recommended minimum of 10 logged dives in order to participate.
Debris Free Oceans will provide gloves, dive shears, and mesh bags. The $20 reservation comes with tanks and weights from Deco Divers, and additional scuba gear is available for rent from the dive shop. It will initially say $115; just add the code below and the discounted fee will be displayed.
Please note that this is not a guided dive- if you would like a dive professional to lead you or your group, indicate this when you register for the trip.
