Join Debris Free Oceans, Ocean Conservancy, and Big Blue & You on Saturday evening for our final celebration of the Plastic Free Cities program! 🩵
Over the last 2 years, the Plastic Free Cities program has worked with youth across Miami-Dade to educate residents and businesses, with a goal of reducing plastic waste. Over 250 students participated in the program and took action to reduce plastic in their communities by working with businesses, hosting community events, interviewing with media, and even speaking to elected officials 👏🏼 In this capstone event for the program, we will be celebrating the accomplishments of these students, discussing the landscape for waste and plastic pollution in Miami, and highlighting what comes next for this incredible group of youth leaders.
During the event, you can look forward to:
- An interactive art activity, inspired by Plastic Free Cities student artists
- Food and beverage from an assortment of local, plastic-free restaurants
- Announcement of program outcomes & local impact
- An engaging panel exploring the future of waste in Miami
We will hear special remarks from a National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration representative from the Marine Debris Program!
Our panel discussion, “Miami-Dade’s Path to a Plastic-Free Future” will feature:
- Eva Lizardo, Senior Manager for Environmental Planning & Development Outreach for Miami-Dade County’s Division of Environmental Resource Management (DERM)
- Caiti Waks, Founder of Debris Free Oceans
- Gioia Gentile, Plastic Free Cities Mentor from Doral Academy
