Baynanza is Miami-Dade County’s annual Biscayne Bay cleanup event- since its inception in 1982, volunteers have helped pick up over 1 million pounds of trash! Join us to be a part of this important movement.
We will kick things off with some opening remarks before hitting the coastline to pick up marine debris- all cleanup supplies provided. Participants are encouraged to download and use the CleanSwell application to easily collect cleanup data and contribute it to Ocean Conservancy’s global marine debris database that is used to inform policy!
We will close with some complimentary bites and bevs from a local Plastic Free 305 restaurant, and all volunteers will receive this year’s Baynanza t-shrit!
As the event approaches, we will send out an email with information about where to park, what to bring, etc. Please register for this event via Eventbrite to make sure you receive this important information 🙂
Our Plastic Free Cities students from Miami Senior High will be helping us plan and host this event! Plastic Free Cities is a collaborative program implemented by nonprofit partners Debris Free Oceans, Ocean Conservancy, and Big Blue & You. This program empowers local youth to help combat plastic pollution in their own communities. In addition to hosting events, the students also learn how to canvas their neighborhood businesses to help them reduce single-use plastics and join Miami-Dade County’s Plastic Free 305 business recognition program!
