Join Black in Marine Science, Plastic Free Cities, and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park for a day of ocean conservation and education 🌊

Get ready for a fun, impactful day at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park with Black in Marine Science and the Plastic Free Cities partners, Ocean Conservancy, Debris Free Oceans, and Big Blue & You!

From 12-2pm, we will host a Plastic Free Cities workshop in the park office. Plastic Free Cities is a NOAA-funded program that helps youth to stop plastic pollution in their own neighborhoods by empowering them with the skills to assist local businesses in reducing waste! Join us to become a junior sustainability consultant, plastic pollution expert, and youth leader! You will learn about the importance of preventing plastic at its source, and how to help your favorite restaurants do just that.

Then from 2-4pm, we will host a barbeque and prep for the beach cleanup. These activities are limited to ~30 participants so make sure to reserve a PFC Workshop & BBQ ticket when registering on Eventbrite.

Then we will do a beach cleanup & BioBlitz as the sun starts to set, from 4-6pm! Help remove marine debris, collect trash data, and collect sediment samples for the Black in Marine Science team to analyze for biodiversity. This portion of the day is open to ~150 people, and walk ups are welcome! But please still register for the Cleanup on Eventbrite to help us have an accurate headcount for gear needs.
