Spend the day cleaning up Riverside Park in Little Havana, taking part in a community swap of school supplies, toys, & more hosted by The Things Lab, and enjoying a hands-on nature workshop with Buenezas. 🌿✨ This is the third in a series of four community cleanups hosted by Debris Free Oceans in Little Havana this summer, as part of the new Miami Community ResilientSea Project, a county-wide initiative focused on building climate resilience through local action. 🌎💪
You’ll enjoy complimentary local bites 🍽️ and receive a special parting gift from Debris Free Oceans (a reusable water bottle, bag, and cutlery set to help you embark on your zero-waste journey)🎁🔄
Things Swap: Share, reuse, and reduce waste! Many toys and school supplies end up in landfills or oceans, adding to plastic pollution. 🧸📚 Together, we can change that! Bring gently used school supplies, clothes, toys, and books unwrapped to swap. 👕 Your items could become another child’s favorite, and you’ll have the chance to pick out “new” treasures to take home, helping reduce waste and support our community. ✨
Creative Nature Workshop: Connect with nature through art and reflection! 🎨 After the cleanup, we’ll explore local plants and make natural inks from leaves, bark, and flowers. Then, create your own botanical painting and, if you’d like, write a short poem celebrating the trees around us. 🍃✍️ This experience is all about gratitude, connection, and caring for our environment. 💚
The Miami Community ResilientSea Project is Miami-Dade’s new sustainability-based initiative serving the Little Havana community and others. The project gets community members involved in environmental activities that protect communities from the effects of heat, pollution, and flooding. Organizations including The CLEO Institute, Miami Waterkeeper, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, Rescue a Reef, and Debris Free Oceans are coming together to provide access to opportunities across Miami-Dade.
