~175 lbs of trash removed from Indian Creek Drive and 27th and Collins Beachside!

& the Sustainable Market brought eco-conscious vendors and patrons alike to come shop for green products!

Thank you so much to everyone who made it out to the Broken Shaker to celebrate the newest member of the Plastic-free MB Program! The business is ditching its agave straws, which are a member of the bioplastic family, for a more biodegradable option. OUT with the agave straw, IN with the much more sustainable hay straw! Agave straws don’t actually break down unless they’re in an industrial composting facility, whereas hay straws are backyard compostable and totally natural. Yay for sustainable upgrades!

First, we hosted an epic cleanup where participants chose to either head to the beach (during Spring Break, mind you) or stay closer to Indian Creek Drive for a coastal river cleanup. Both teams retrieved tons of debris, totaling roughly 175 lbs by the end!

Then, we flocked back to the Broken Shaker to check out the several sustainable vendors who set up around the pool. Our local tattoo girl gang, Iris Tattoo, also came out to support, tatting people and donating the proceeds to DFO’s programming!
