Hello everybody! We hope you are as excited about International Coastal Cleanup Day as we are here at Debris Free Oceans!! ICC is the world’s largest, one-day volunteer effort to clean our oceans and waterways!
DFO is taking over the Grove this ICC! With the help of our partner Shake-A-Leg and the Coconut Grove BID, we have put together an Island and Mangrove Cleanup! We will meet at Shake-A-Leg at 9am for check in, and then take their pontoon boat out to the Shake-A-Leg island for beach cleanup – strict 9:30am departure time so don’t be on Miami time! There is ample parking in the lot right next to Shake-A-Leg, and we will return to shore around 12/12:30pm.
**If you would prefer to stay onshore this ICC, be sure to check out our Peacock Park + Grove Street Cleanup!**
We will provide buckets, trash grabbers, gloves, a cooler of water for refills, sunscreen, bug spray, and gifted reusable tote bags for all volunteers. Please bring exposure protection (closed toed-shoes, hat, sunglasses, sun protection shirt), water attire, a towel, and a reusable water bottle (help us keep this event single-use plastic free!).
Download the Ocean Conservancy’s CleanSwell app to participate in the Citizen Science activity. This way you can log, tally and measure the impact of your cleanup while contributing to a global database of marine debris that is used to inform prevention policies!
Limited spots available – Register now to reserve your space on the boat and a guaranteed good time!
This year’s shirts are available for purchase here!
Spearheaded globally by the Ocean Conservancy, VolunteerCleanup.org organizes Miami-Dade’s local participation in the annual International Coastal event with 45+ simultaneous shoreline cleanups around the county and is made possible by the generous support of our presenting sponsors Covanta and Rickenbacker Marina, with additional support from Blackstone Charitable Foundation, Verizon, Miami-Dade County RER-DERM, Pubbelly Sushi, and Greenberg Traurig.
