Debris Free Oceans is stoked to be partnering up with International Seakeepers Society + Afro Mermaids for an epic World Oceans’ Day celebration! Join us for a fun evening on Biscayne Bay, as we take a boat to Morningside Island for a beach cleanup, then head to a nearby site to snorkel with the Mermaids of Afro Mermaid, and then enjoy some zero-waste drinks in reusable cups! You don’t want to miss this celebration of clean beaches, low-waste living, and diversity + representation in ocean conservation and water recreation!
We will meet at Pelican Harbor Marina at 4:30pm to check in and load onto the boat. We will then depart at 5pm sharp and head to Morningside Island! En route to the island you will hear from each org about what World Oceans Day means to them, how to be an ocean steward, and why this event is so important.
At Morningside Island we will conduct a ~1 hr beach cleanup – all cleanup supplies provided! After the cleanup, we will take the boat to a nearby site for a snorkel party with the Mermaids of Afro Mermaid- there will be music, floats, and a keg of local craft beer! BYO reusable cup to receive free drinks (21+ only). Or you can purchase a DFO cup as a ticket add-on when you check out on Eventbrite.
We are aiming to be back by 8pm, but you know how things go on the water in Miami! Make sure to leave a little cushion between this event and your next commitment that night.
Each ticket is $50; all proceeds go towards tipping the amazing crew and fundraising for the partner organizations.
During the week leading up to the event you will receive an email with additional information on details such as parking, waivers, etc. Feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions in the meantime!
